2016 Rates

Electric rates to increase 1.3% with June 2016 bills. The higher rates are necessary because of the costs of rebuilding parts of the system as they reach end of their useful lives.

In the past year, we’ve seen costs as high as $250,000 a mile to rebuild lines. The original costs for those lines were fraction of that – some of the poles dated from 1947. They had to be replaced. Everything was competitively bid, but it still cost $2,000,000 for an eight mile section.
