Six of our linemen competed at the Association of Illinois Electric Cooperative’s 23rd annual Lineman’s Safety Rodeo in Springfield on September 8th.

Seventeen teams of three from Illinois electric cooperatives and municipal utilities across the state competed. Events included the hurt man rescue, 40-foot climb, H-structure course, transformer banking, and the 40-foot head-to-head climbing challenge. Events are created to highlight the skills linemen use to work safely and efficiently. While judging is based on agility, speed, and accuracy, above all, the linemen are judged on safe work practices.

Representing Illinois Electric were two teams consisting of Aaron Rodhouse, Joe Alexander, Darren Hayn, Kaiden Davis, Ike Richard, and Josh Davis. Out of the 17 teams, the team of Kaiden Davis, Ike Richard, and Josh Davis from our co-op won “Overall Team Champion.” The team received the award at the Safety Energy Conference the evening of the Lineman’s Safety Rodeo.
